The Power of Community – Elite Gym

People thrive on a sense of connection and in an online landscape where social media is king, research suggests that our need for rewarding social contact is not being met.

The Campaign to End Loneliness reports that 45% of adults in the UK feel occasionally, sometimes or often lonely – that’s the equivalent of 25 million people.  Feeling isolated is thought to be as harmful to health as well-known risk factors such as obesity and smoking.

But it’s not all gloom and doom (scrolling).  There are glimmers of hope.  Like a boxing gym in Bolton that has been serving the socio-economically deprived community of Halliwell for over 20 years.

In times when terrible global news reporting seems inescapable, flashes of news on local endeavours remind us that community belonging can be tremendously healing.
